Mumbai

Mumbaikars have got the “sinking feeling” because now the water has risen “above their heads”. They are not able to “soak” the information that city is in crisis. The people have “come on streets” in protest against the administration. They are demanding basic necessities in “roti, kapda aur makan”. You already know “empty vessel (read stomach) makes more noise”. The local administration has “let them down (in water)” in many ways. The “current” affairs are miserable because electricity has disappeared. The Mumbai administration did not care about “hygiene” because they thought that the “high-gene” of Mumbaikars will negate it. The taps are running dry because the Metrological department could not “tap” the changes in weather. The “city of dreams” has become “city of wet dreams”, not because of the MMSs “floating” around, but because people now have nightmares about water swallowing up their house.

Now Mumbaikars are using the “road less traveled” to reach their homes. They are doing what they have never done. They are trying to “lift” (from water) the “downtrodden” (and deep sunk) people. People are migrating from Lower Parel to Dadar (meaning steps in Marathi). This is what Mumbai Municipal Corporation was referring to as “social upliftment”. Kurla’s Kalras from are taking shelter in Bandra’s Bendres. Mr. Kalra’s car is into pieces; therefore he is trying to “forge (literally!) an alliance” of nuts (around him) and bolts. Why did it rain so much in Mumbai? Is it because “Gods must be crazy”? What does history tell me?

History tells me that Lord Krishna came to the rescue of village Vrindavan (could not locate on “Political” map of India) when Lord Indra exhibited his wrath on them. Lord Krishna lifted the “Govardhan Parvat” to provide shelter to villagers. Mumbai needs Lord Krishna more than ever before. But alas, he does not have any hill near Mumbai to give shelter under, even if he appears. All the mountains are occupied by builders and slum dwellers. Even the “matsya avatar” of Lord Vishnu cannot do much in Mumbai.
Another mythological character, Noah could have saved them. He could have used all the wood out of fallen trees and silt coming out of sea to build an ark. And he could have taken all the Mumbaikars in the ark and saved them. But two things did not let this happed. Firstly, Jove, the Old Testament God could not find any Noah (righteous and blameless among people of his time) in Mumbai. Secondly, if at all Noah had to exist, he could not take anybody with him, because Mumbaikars have not allowed any kind of animals to live along with them in Mumbai (unless of direct usage to them). But anyway, this is not any “Biblical Flood”, so, God must not have given his best shot.

The rain-gods have tried everything to “dampen” the city. The only thing which is “buoyant” in the water is the “Spirit of Mumbai”.
